Burial or Cremation

What’s right for you?

Burials

In most cases, burials must take place in designated cemeteries. However, in rare circumstances, burials may be permitted on large rural properties, provided approval is granted by the local council.

If there is no existing family grave or pre-purchased plot, we can assist you in selecting and purchasing a new grave site at a cemetery of your choice. Many modern cemeteries allow for up to three interments in a single grave, depending on specific conditions. We’re here to guide you through these options and help you make the best choice for your needs.

Considerations

When planning a burial, there are several important factors to consider:

  • Family Graves – If your family already owns a grave or plot, we can arrange for it to be reopened and the headstone temporarily removed to allow for burial.
  • Types of Cemeteries – There are various cemetery styles to suit personal and cultural preferences:
    • Lawn Cemeteries – Graves are covered with grass and marked with flat plaques set at ground level.
    • Monumental Cemeteries – Traditional in style, these graves feature upright headstones or monuments made of marble, granite, or similar materials.
    • Woodland or Eco Cemeteries – Designed to preserve the natural environment, these cemeteries integrate graves into existing landscapes with minimal disruption to trees and native flora.

We can help guide you through these options and assist with choosing the most appropriate setting for your loved one.

Cremation

Cremation has become increasingly popular, especially in urban areas. For some, it’s a practical choice—conserving land and relieving families of the responsibility of maintaining a grave. Others are drawn to the flexibility it offers, with ashes able to be placed in a personally meaningful location or kept close by.

Many cemeteries also provide dedicated spaces for ash memorials, offering families a permanent place to visit and reflect.

Today, there are countless meaningful and creative ways to memorialise a loved one’s ashes—from decorative urns and keepsake jewellery to custom-made picture frames or memorabilia boxes. Some even choose to have a diamond created from the ashes, transforming their memory into something lasting and unique.

Considerations

If you’re considering cremation, here are a few key points to keep in mind:

  • Cost – Cremation is often more affordable than a traditional burial.
  • Service Location – The funeral can be held at the crematorium, where most facilities offer a dedicated chapel.
  • Flexibility – You may also choose to hold the service elsewhere—such as in a church or other meaningful venue—before proceeding to the crematorium.
  • Ashes – You’ll need to decide on a final resting place for the ashes. Options include keeping them in a decorative urn, scattering them in a special location, or interring them in a cemetery or memorial garden.

We’re here to guide you through these choices with care and clarity.
